The Ministry of Water Resources has initiated a Level IV emergency response for flood defense in Chongqing.
According to the forecast, from August 2 to 4, Chongqing will experience moderate to heavy rain, with heavy rain in the central and southeastern parts of Chongqing, and localized areas experiencing torrential rain. Major rivers in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as tributaries like the Wu River and Jialing River, will see significant rising water levels. Among these, smaller rivers along the tributaries of the Yangtze, such as Dafu Creek, Bixi River, and tributaries of the Wu River like Jiuqu River and Ganlong River, may experience floodwaters exceeding warning levels. Based on the "Emergency Response Procedures for Water and Drought Disaster Prevention" issued by the Ministry of Water Resources, a level IV flood defense emergency response has been activated for Chongqing City at 1:00 PM on August 2. The ministry urges and guides local water conservancy departments to closely monitor changes in rainfall, enhance emergency duty and assessment, strengthen monitoring, forecasting, and early warning, scientifically manage water engineering projects, and ensure flood prevention for rivers, the safety of reservoirs during the flood season, and defense against floods and mountain torrents in small and medium-sized rivers, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
