The core inflation index in Japan has risen for the first time in three months, further solidifying expectations for another interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan later this year. Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reported on Friday that the core consumer price index, excluding fresh food, rose by 1.6% year-on-year in June, in line with expectations. At the same time, the core CPI, excluding fresh food and energy, which is considered the benchmark for core inflation by the Bank of Japan, rose by 1.7% year-on-year. The overall CPI also increased by 1.7% year-on-year.
