A joint poll conducted by The Washington Post and Ipsos shows that over half of Americans do not approve of the performance of the federal Supreme Court; 46% of respondents believe that when the court handles cases related to the Trump administration's policies, it relies on ideology rather than legal texts. The approval rate data released this month hits a new low for the court in recent years, reflecting a long-term trend: more and more Americans believe that court rulings are biased towards political parties. In the judicial year ending in June of this year, the Supreme Court made several key rulings in favor of the Trump administration - expanding the president's executive power and allowing the government to deport hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants in the United States. However, in other core policy issues, the court has also rejected Trump's demands: for example, maintaining birthright citizenship and halting Trump's plan to impose broad tariffs on goods from multiple countries worldwide; the court also ruled that the president does not have the authority to dismiss Democratic members of the Federal Reserve Board at least at this stage. This new poll shows that 55% of Americans have a negative view of the Supreme Court's performance, with only 41% expressing approval. This figure is hovering at a historic low, but has not dropped to the peak of dissatisfaction in 2022. In that year, Gallup poll data showed that 58% of people did not approve of the court's work, while only 40% held a positive attitude.
