The railway department is piloting a service for booking tickets 60 days in advance.

According to the China National Railway Group Limited, starting from July 20th, the railway department will pilot a new train ticket reservation service for more than 200 trains on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and Beijing-Shanghai railway. Passengers can fill out their reservation requests on the railway 12306 mobile app in the "Reservation Ticket" section from 60 days before the train departs until 17 days before. The railway 12306 system will confirm the reservation orders from 20 days before until 16 days before the train departs. July 20th to August 29th will be a transitional period where passengers can reserve tickets for September 15th and beyond in sequence, and starting from August 30th, they can regularly reserve tickets for trains departing 60 days before until 17 days before.
