According to an Associated Press report on July 14th, American and Iraqi officials said on the 14th that the US military will withdraw from Iraq by the end of September. The US military's 23-year military presence in Iraq, which began with the invasion of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003, will end with much smaller-scale military operations targeting the Islamic State organization. According to reports, US President Trump said at the White House while standing side by side with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, "We believe that there is no longer a need for troops to be stationed there." He pointed out that Iraq's relationship with oil companies is becoming increasingly closer. Trump said, "This is a very important relationship that does not require troops. We are there to help them and protect them when necessary. But we believe it is no longer necessary to do so." Al-Zaidi, through a translator, stated that the US military will withdraw from Iraq before September 30th, while "American companies will remain in Iraq."
