An American pilot was killed in an attack in eastern Indonesia.
The Indonesian military confirmed on the 3rd that an American pilot was attacked and killed by local armed militants in the eastern region of Papua, Indonesia on the 2nd, and the small aircraft he was flying was also set on fire and destroyed. According to local media reports, the attack occurred in a village in Yahukimo County, Papua Province, where the aircraft belonged to an Indonesian airline. On that day, the plane piloted by the American pilot and carrying 7 passengers went missing after landing, and was subsequently attacked. Currently, the pilot's body has been found, and the 7 passengers on board have been safely relocated. The Indonesian military stated that the attack was carried out by local separatist militants, and they are currently making efforts to capture the suspects, and have strengthened security measures in the surrounding areas. A local armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that its members killed the American pilot and destroyed the plane because it frequently transported Indonesian military personnel.
