Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an American job data company, announced that as of June of this year, employers have announced layoffs of 443,604 people, a 40% decrease from the 744,308 announced in the first half of 2025. This is the second highest total for layoffs from January to June since 2020, second only to last year's surge in layoffs driven by the government. This marks the fourth time this year that the monthly layoff total has been lower than the same period last year.
