South African President calls for peaceful protests, warns of crackdown on violent behavior.
South African President Ramaphosa called on the people on the 29th to protest peacefully and legally, while warning that the government will crack down harshly on violence and intimidation during protests. Ramaphosa stated in the weekly presidential newsletter from the office of the president that the concerns of South Africans about issues such as illegal immigration and border management "are worth hearing". The government has realized that the immigration system needs significant reform, is strengthening border control, increasing efforts to combat illegal immigration, improving asylum and visa systems, and harshly cracking down on corruption that undermines the immigration management system.
