Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Miao Deyu stated at a press conference on June 17 that in international affairs, listening to the voices of the South, expanding the presence of the South, and safeguarding the interests of Southern countries are necessary for building a more just and equitable global governance system. China will continue to closely cooperate with developing countries, walk hand in hand on the path to modernization, and work together towards the reform of the global governance system. On the same day, the Chinese government released a white paper titled "Building a More Just and Equitable Global Governance System: China's Concept, Initiative, and Action." A reporter asked: Southern countries contribute 80% to global economic growth, but they have been marginalized in global governance for a long time. How can we promote the resolution of the "North-South imbalance" issue in global governance? Miao Deyu said that the issue of "North-South imbalance" in global governance should be taken seriously by all parties. China believes that the collective rise of the global South cannot be blocked, the era of a few countries monopolizing international affairs is gone, and the longstanding historical injustices should be corrected. Listening to the voices of the South, expanding the presence of the South, and safeguarding the interests of Southern countries in international affairs are necessary for building a more just and equitable global governance system. He mentioned that to achieve this goal, it is important to support the unity and strength of the global South, utilize platforms of cooperation such as BRICS, SCO, and "Group of 77 + China", strengthen emerging financial institutions like the New Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and inject strong Southern energy into the cause of world peace and development. Miao Deyu also emphasized the need to increase the weight of Southern countries in international affairs, stick to the correct direction of reforming the Security Council to increase the representation and voice of developing countries, expedite the review of World Bank shares, and achieve meaningful adjustments in the IMF quota shares. Efforts should also be made to attract more UN agencies and international organizations to establish headquarters in developing countries, and to appoint more outstanding talents from developing countries as leaders of international organizations. He concluded by stating that it is essential to promote North-South dialogue, strengthen coordination of macroeconomic policies, urge developed countries to fulfill historical responsibilities and obligations in bridging the development gap, addressing climate change, and create an open and inclusive international environment. Miao Deyu reiterated China's commitment to assisting Southern countries in development and advocating on behalf of developing countries in international affairs. "We will continue to closely cooperate with developing countries, walk hand in hand on the path to modernization, and work together towards the reform of the global governance system," he said.
