Illegally accepting over 152 million yuan in bribes, Yuan Guangyu, former deputy general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in the first instance.

On June 17, 2026, the Intermediate People's Court of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, publicly sentenced Yuan Guangyu, former member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, for bribery. The defendant Yuan Guangyu was sentenced to death for the crime of bribery, with a two-year reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all personal property. The proceeds of the bribery and interest recovered in the case were confiscated according to law and turned over to the state treasury.
