Today, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to release the white paper "Building a More Just and Reasonable Global Governance System: China's Concept, Initiative, and Action". A CCTV journalist asked: More and more people are worried that the current international order is regressing to the law of the jungle, and at the same time, the authority and role of the United Nations are being weakened. In this context, how will China uphold multilateralism and support the United Nations in better fulfilling its role? Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, responded. It is not that the United Nations is unimportant, but rather that it has not been respected and maintained. Just over 80 years ago, it was because of the havoc caused by the law of the jungle that the international community, after the ruins of two world wars, chose to embrace multilateralism and establish the United Nations. Today, the apparent failure of multilateralism is not because the United Nations is no longer important, but precisely because the authority and status of the United Nations have not been respected and utilized. The resurgence of the law of the jungle is not because the United Nations Charter is outdated, but because the Charter has not been effectively upheld and maintained. In the face of global challenges, the most urgent task is to fulfill the obligations of the United Nations Charter. Faced with the ever-increasing global challenges, the most urgent task is to fulfill the obligations of the United Nations Charter, uphold sovereign equality, abide by the rule of international law, oppose power bullying, actively support the United Nations in playing a core role, and use the United Nations as a platform to consolidate global consensus, coordinate actions of various countries, jointly address challenges, and continuously eliminate the deficiencies and deficits in global governance. At the same time, we must keep up with the times, accelerate the pace of UN reform, actively respond to the demands of developing countries, focus on enhancing the representation and voice of global southern countries, sustainably stimulate the vitality of the United Nations, and enhance the efficiency of the United Nations. China is willing to work with all countries to revitalize the United Nations. As the first country to sign the UN Charter, China has a responsibility to uphold the authority of the United Nations through the advancement of global governance initiatives and work with all countries to revitalize and strengthen the United Nations.
