International Air Transport Association: Global SAF production still disappointingly low in 2026.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released the latest estimates showing that by 2026, global Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production is expected to reach approximately 2.4 million tons, accounting for only 0.8% of total aviation fuel usage, with airline expenditures totaling $4.3 billion. IATA Chairman Willie Walsh said, "It has been another disappointing year for SAF production. The difficulty in achieving the 65% fuel demand target for SAF by 2050 is increasing year by year due to the lack of effective policy coordination and the lack of interest from oil companies. The current energy crisis should further highlight the urgency of developing renewable energy sources, including SAF. However, the urgency of energy crises, achieving energy independence and creating jobs, and mitigating climate change have not yet translated into the market incentives needed to establish a mature SAF market."
