The Ministry of Water Resources has initiated a Level IV emergency response for flood defense, and held consultations to deploy flood prevention work during the college entrance examination period.
According to the forecast, from June 7th to 9th, there will be heavy rainfall in Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong and other regions, mainly heavy to torrential rain. In some areas including central Chongqing, southern and eastern Guizhou, western and southern Hunan, northern and southern Guangxi, and central and southern Guangdong, there will be heavy rain, accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall. Water levels will rise in rivers such as the Qu Jiang in Sichuan, Jialing River in Chongqing, Wu Jiang and Yuan Jiang in Guizhou, upper reaches of the Liujiang and Duilianjiang, Yuanjiang and Zishui in Hunan, Beipanjiang and Liujiang and Guijiang in Guangxi, Beijiang and coastal rivers in Guangdong. Small and medium rivers in rainstorm areas such as Daba River, Bixi River in the Three Gorges area, Yitao River in Zishui tributary, Longtan River in Wujiang tributary, Luoding River in lower reaches of Xijiang tributary may experience flooding above warning level. There is a high risk of flash floods in hilly areas. On June 7th, the Ministry of Water Resources issued a notice to relevant provincial water departments and basin management agencies to make specific arrangements for rainstorm defense work, especially emphasizing the protection of college entrance examination centers, surrounding rivers and flood defense against flash floods to ensure flood safety.
