In June, some areas experienced flooding above the warning level. Related preventative measures have been deployed.
The Ministry of Water Resources announced on the 29th that since the beginning of the flood season this year, localized extreme heavy rainfall in China has caused floods and flash floods in small and medium-sized rivers to be earlier and heavier, with an increasing number of extreme torrential rain and floods. Currently, the water resources department is working hard to carry out various preventive and response measures to ensure the safety of the flood season. In the face of severe flooding, the Ministry of Water Resources, together with local authorities, will strengthen monitoring and early warning, scientifically dispatch water conservancy projects, and make every effort to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. According to statistics, since the start of the flood season, 1438 large and medium-sized reservoirs nationwide have stored 150.9 billion cubic meters of floodwater, preventing flooding in 82 towns and avoiding the relocation of 188,100 people. In addition, the Ministry of Water Resources has activated a Level IV emergency response for flood defense in 11 provinces including Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, and Guangxi, and sent out 7 working groups to assist and guide on the front lines. A total of 250 water alerts have been issued nationwide, with 4.4921 million warning messages sent through the mountain flood disaster monitoring and early warning platform, and 238,300 people relocated. The Ministry of Water Resources reminds that starting from June 1, China will enter the flood season, with the southern region entering the main flood season. The main streams of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Dongting Lake, Poyang Lake, the Xijiang, Beijiang, Dongjiang, and Hanjiang rivers in the Pearl River Basin, Taihu Lake, the Qiantang River in Zhejiang, and the Minjiang in Fujian may experience floods above alert level.
