European Central Bank Governing Council member and Governor of the Bank of Portugal, Alvaro Santos Pereira, said in an interview on Saturday that the European Central Bank should take action early to address inflation issues. Pereira said, "Currently, our primary concern is inflation, and we must closely monitor all data. Based on past experience, we need to take action early to prevent inflation from causing more serious secondary effects." He added, "Once there is a situation of spiraling inflation, I tend to support quick, decisive measures." When asked if this meant he would support the ECB raising interest rates at next month's meeting, he responded, "At that time, the European Central Bank will announce the latest projected data and relevant indicators for each country. We will assess the trend in prices comprehensively before making a final decision."
