Chinese Academy of Engineering academician and Chief Scientist of Ningde Times, Wu Kai: After the implementation of the new national standard, the spontaneous combustion rate of new energy vehicles in China will be one order of magnitude lower than that of fuel vehicles.

On May 30th, Wu Kai, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief scientist of CATL, stated at the 2026 Equipment Strong Nation Forum that after the mandatory national standard "Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles" is officially implemented on July 1st this year, the rate of spontaneous combustion of China's new energy vehicles will be one order of magnitude lower than that of gasoline vehicles.
