"Penguin" moving, Tencent provides 2000 yuan rent for employees.
Penguin Island is the nickname for the headquarters of Tencent in Da Chan Bay, Shenzhen, with the full name "Internet +" Future Technology City. In 2019, Tencent acquired the land A002-0076 in Dachan Bay, Xixiang Street, Baoan District, with an area of 809,000 square meters and a total construction area of over 3 million square meters, for a listed price of 8.52 billion yuan, which is now known as "Penguin Island". Public information shows that the investment in this project has reached 31.9 billion yuan. As Tencent employees gradually move in, in late May, reporters visited Penguin Island.
During office hours in the afternoon, there were not many employees downstairs, but some commercial facilities such as milk tea shops, coffee shops, and fast food restaurants had already opened. Currently, the construction progress of the park has reached 30%, and since its trial operation in October last year, more than 14,000 Tencent and its subsidiary and outsourcing employees have entered the office.
Reporters learned that by the end of June this year, the number of employees working on Penguin Island will reach 28,000. After completion, Penguin Island will be able to accommodate over 80,000 office workers.
Upon entering Penguin Apartments, reporters saw that the rooms are mainly 41 square meters in size, with a usable area of around 30 square meters, offering a broad view. There are over 4,000 such apartments, prioritizing young employees without houses with a 2-year lease term. Originally, the pricing of Penguin Apartments was set around 4,000 yuan per month, similar to some well-known long-term rental apartments in Shenzhen. After internal discussions on pricing rationality, the monthly rent was officially set at 2,000 yuan, with the highest-priced unit not exceeding 3,000 yuan.
