From May 19th to 22nd, 2026, the Intermediate People's Court of Quanzhou City, Fujian Province held a public trial for the defendants Wei Huairen, Liao Jingfang, and Kang Min for charges of fraud, intentional homicide, extortion, organizing others to illegally cross the border, illegally crossing the border, and harboring others to use drugs, as well as defendants Chen Dawei and Xiong Hengxing for charges of intentional homicide and fraud. The Quanzhou People's Procuratorate accused that since 2019, a criminal group led by Wei Huairen and others have established multiple parks using the military and political influence of the Wei family in the Mong La area of Myanmar. They attracted "investors" with armed protection, carried out telecommunications fraud in China with losses exceeding 2.4 billion yuan, resulting in the deaths of 2 Chinese citizens. Chen Dawei and others were also involved in intentional homicide resulting in the deaths of 2 Chinese citizens. Wei Huairen and others also committed multiple crimes such as organizing others to illegally cross borders and extortion. The procuratorate recommended that Wei Huairen, Chen Dawei, and others be held criminally responsible for charges of fraud, intentional homicide, and other crimes. During the trial, the procuratorate presented evidence, and the defendants and their defense lawyers cross-examined the evidence. Both parties presented their arguments under the supervision of the court, and the defendants made their final statements. After the trial, the court announced an adjournment and will schedule a date for the sentencing.
