Japanese Finance Minister Kaori Hoshimizu said that Japan's supplementary budget could be around $19 billion, while downplaying the impact of this additional spending on the government's finances. "The numbers are not too far off," Kaori said on Friday when asked about reports in the local media that the supplementary budget could be around 3 trillion yen. She noted that Prime Minister Naona Takichi would announce more details on Monday. Kaori stated that some of the debt issuance plans in last year's budget accounts have been canceled, reducing the need to issue new government bonds for the supplementary budget. Japan is currently reviewing the revenue and expenditure situation of the previous fiscal year in preparation for the final accounts in June. The market remains cautious about large-scale fiscal spending. Against the backdrop of inflation concerns stemming from the war pushing global yields higher, this has also led to selling of Japanese government bonds. "I have been tasked with addressing risks," Kaori said. "These measures, of course, include communication with the market."
