Institution: During the May Day holiday, China's smartphone sales decreased by 16% year-on-year.
The Counterpoint Research report shows that in the two weeks before and after the May Day holiday in 2026, the sales of smartphones in China decreased by 16% compared to the previous year. Huawei continues to lead the Chinese smartphone market. Other Chinese brands have successively launched new models in late April and simultaneously started promotions to boost their sales momentum during the May Day holiday. However, due to the increase in component costs, Chinese android phone manufacturers have raised the prices of old models by an average of 13%, which may further suppress market demand in the short term. With the promotion of the 618 sales event, a moderate recovery in the market is expected in early June. Against the backdrop of continued pressure on memory costs, it is expected that the shipment of smartphones in China in 2026 will decrease by 9% year-on-year, but still better than the global average level.
