Cuban Foreign Minister refutes US Secretary of State's claim that "Cuba has not been subjected to an oil blockade".
Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez stated on the 5th that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's remarks that "Cuba has not been subjected to an oil blockade" are "lies." According to a statement posted on the U.S. State Department's official website, Pompeo, while hosting a press conference at the White House that afternoon, claimed that Cuba has not been subjected to an oil blockade. Rodriguez wrote on social media that the reality cannot be ignored: on January 29, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order threatening to levy tariffs on goods shipped to the U.S. from countries that provide oil to Cuba. Only one fuel shipment has arrived in Cuba in recent times. All of Cuba's suppliers have been threatened and intimidated, in violation of rules of free trade and freedom of navigation. The new executive order issued on May 1 expands the scope of sanctions against Cuba. Rodriguez stated that Pompeo "should be very aware of the damage and suffering that the criminal oil blockade he proposed to the U.S. president is causing to the Cuban people."
