The US military signs nearly $100 million contract to use AI to detect and sweep the mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Department of Defense recently announced that the US Navy has signed a contract with an artificial intelligence company to purchase machine learning services. According to foreign media reports, the US military plans to use the company's AI technology to improve mine detection capabilities, with applications including the Strait of Hormuz. According to information released by the US Department of Defense, the US Navy Information Warfare Command has recently signed a contract with the AI company Domino Data Lab based in San Francisco, aimed at purchasing and deploying software solutions to maintain and enhance the performance of the entire defense department's related systems. The contract, if fully executed, is valued at nearly $100 million. Domino Data Lab reposted the relevant Reuters report on its website. The report stated that the US Navy has signed a contract with the company to efficiently sweep for mines in the Strait of Hormuz using AI technology. The company's software can integrate data from various types of sensors, including side-scan sonar and visual imaging systems, to train unmanned underwater systems to identify new types of mines in a short period of time. This technology is expected to significantly shorten the data analysis and model update cycle, improve mine detection efficiency and accuracy, and reduce dependence on personnel.
