On April 27, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held its regular press conference for April. Zhang Dawei, director of the Ecological Environment Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, stated that they are currently intensively preparing the "14th Five-Year Plan" for ecological environment monitoring. Firstly, in terms of monitoring network, the focus is on expanding coverage and enhancing functionality. They plan to expand the current 33,000 national monitoring sites to over 50,000 sites. They will set up a number of comprehensive monitoring stations with multiple functions in key areas. Secondly, in terms of monitoring technology, the focus is on empowering through digital technology and continuous upgrades. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, they will comprehensively promote the digitalization and intelligence transformation of the monitoring system. Thirdly, in terms of monitoring management, the focus is on strengthening coordination and full penetration. In terms of public monitoring, they will promote coordinated planning, construction, and sharing of networks among central and local governments and departments, enhance the construction of grassroots supervision and monitoring and emergency monitoring capabilities, and resolutely prevent and crack down on fraudulent activities. Fourthly, in terms of monitoring support, the focus is on identifying problems and warning of risks. While comprehensively and objectively evaluating the quality of the ecological environment, they will prioritize identifying and addressing issues.
