The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently revised and issued the "List of Beautiful River and Lake Protection and Construction", focusing on solving prominent water ecological environmental problems around the people. Over 200 branches of rivers at levels two, three, and four, small water bodies, ponds, ditches, and culverts have been added, bringing the total number of water bodies on the list to 2608 after the revision. Officials introduced that this revision adheres to the principle of environmental protection for the people, emphasizing comprehensive governance. Currently, the water ecological environment quality of the major rivers is stable and improving, but the quality of water environment around the people still needs further improvement. The focus of governance will shift from the major rivers to the tributaries and small water bodies. On one hand, by enhancing the construction of beautiful rivers and lakes in small water bodies, it allows the common people to directly feel the improvement of the water ecological environment, effectively enhancing their sense of achievement and happiness. On the other hand, efforts will be made to strengthen the protection and governance of rivers and lakes at the grassroots level, emphasizing systematic governance, comprehensive governance, and source governance, and promoting the construction of beautiful rivers and lakes comprehensively. By the end of 2025, a total of 523 beautiful rivers and lakes have been completed nationwide, with a completion rate of 20%.
