SoftBank is preparing to manufacture batteries for AI data centers.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg cited sources as reporting that the mobile communication division of Japan's SoftBank Group plans to convert some of its factories in Osaka, Japan into a large-scale battery production line to power its own artificial intelligence data centers. The company aims to achieve production online within the next five years, with the battery project announced by CEO Junichi Miyakawa in May. The plan is to develop a factory with a total battery capacity of several gigawatt hours, which will become one of the largest battery factories in Japan and will first be used to support its own AI data centers before being supplied to other Japanese companies. After considering the various uses of the factory located in Sakai City, SoftBank executives decided to enter the energy field.
