South Africa's confirmed measles cases have surpassed 1,000 within 15 weeks.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa released a report on the 20th, stating that the recent measles outbreak in South Africa is continuing to spread, with over a thousand confirmed cases reported nationwide in the past 15 weeks. The report showed that from December 29, 2025 to April 12, 2026, a total of 1076 confirmed cases of measles were reported in all 9 provinces of South Africa. Among them, the Western Cape province reported the highest number of confirmed cases, reaching 554. The report also indicated that the majority of confirmed cases were children aged 1 to 14, totaling 731 cases, accounting for 67.9% of the total number of cases. The report called on healthcare workers to strengthen monitoring of the measles outbreak, improve case reporting, laboratory testing, and close contact tracing, while also urging areas to conduct risk assessments for measles outbreaks, enhance vaccination efforts, and increase health education and promotion.
