Lufthansa Airlines will cancel 20,000 summer flights to save fuel.
Lufthansa Airlines announced on Tuesday that in order to save on aviation fuel, they will be cancelling 20,000 unprofitable short-haul flights from their European summer flight schedule. Since the conflict in Iran began, aviation fuel prices have doubled. Lufthansa stated that this move will reduce available seat kilometers by 1% and save approximately 40,000 tons of aviation fuel. The first batch of 120 cancelled flights took effect on Tuesday and will be in place until the end of May. More flight reduction measures will be announced in late April or early May.
