On April 21, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the development of the industrial and information sectors in the first quarter of 2026. Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, stated that since the beginning of the year, the overall industrial economy has shown a trend of improvement and stability, playing a role as a stabilizing force for the macroeconomic landscape. In general, there are three main characteristics. Firstly, the industrial economy has grown rapidly, with 34 industries in the industrial sector achieving year-on-year growth in value added, with the electrical, mechanical, equipment, chemical, petrochemical, general equipment, and special equipment industries contributing 51.4% to industrial growth. In terms of regions, key regions have played a significant role, with the industrial value added of 10 major industrial provinces growing at a rate of about 7.2%. Secondly, the industrial structure continues to improve, with the value added of the equipment manufacturing industry growing by 8.9% year-on-year, contributing nearly 50% to the growth of industrial value added in scale enterprises. The value added of high-tech manufacturing in scale enterprises grew by 12.5% year-on-year, an acceleration of 3.1 percentage points compared to last year. Emerging industries such as integrated circuit manufacturing and biopharmaceutical manufacturing have rapidly grown, while technological advancements such as artificial intelligence have accelerated the adoption of new technologies and products in industries such as consumer electronics. Thirdly, positive momentum continues to accumulate, with the production efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises in the scale industrial sector surpassing the average level of scale industrial enterprises. Manufacturing investment has stabilized and rebounded.
