Every county has access to gigabit internet, and every village has access to 5G. China's information and communication infrastructure has made new progress.

The State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the development of the industrial and information sectors in the first quarter of 2026. During the conference, relevant officials introduced the construction of our country's information and communication infrastructure: 1. Enhanced network capabilities: By the end of March, the total number of 5G base stations nationwide reached 4.958 million, with 32.01 million 10G PON ports capable of providing gigabit network services. 168 neighborhoods, factories, and industrial parks in 86 cities across the country have begun pilot deployments of 10-gigabit optical networks, with 5G capable coverage in 330 cities. The mobile Internet of Things is flourishing, with 2.948 billion end-users. 2. Expanded network coverage: By now, the whole country has achieved "1000 Mbps in every county, 5G in every village," with 100% of administrative villages having broadband and over 95% having 5G. Border management and trade institutions have achieved 100% coverage with 4G/5G networks. There is deep network coverage in 269,000 key locations nationwide, and network continuity coverage has been achieved in 654,000 kilometers of roads and railways, as well as 316 subway lines. 3. Improved network applications: By now, 5G and gigabit optical networks have been integrated into 91 of the total 97 categories of the national economy.
