On April 17 local time, Bill Pibbles, head of the OpenAI video generation platform Sora, announced his resignation. The company is adjusting its strategy to reduce "side projects" and refocus on programming and enterprise applications, and Pibbles' departure is part of this series of adjustments. OpenAI announced last month that it is abandoning its video generation tool Sora. Pibbles said on X, "I am very grateful for the research environment created by Sam, Mark, Aditya, and Jacob, which allowed us to explore ideas deviating from the company's main roadmap. It is easy in life to focus only on the most important thing, but for a research institution, maintaining diversity is the key to long-term development, and Sam understands this deeply. Sora is a project that can only be realized in OpenAI, and I will always cherish this experience." Meanwhile, Kevin Weil, vice president responsible for scientific AI at OpenAI, will also resign, with Friday being his last day. He said on X that his team "will be dispersed to other research teams."
