Cyprus's foot-and-mouth disease outbreak has spread to pig farms, and the relevant authorities have started culling.
According to the Cyprus Mail, the Cyprus Veterinary Services Department confirmed on the 17th that the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak has spread to pig farms in the country. The relevant authorities have initiated culling operations at a pig farm in the central part of the country where the outbreak occurred, and taken measures to contain the spread of the disease. The Cyprus Veterinary Services Department stated on the same day that cases were discovered at the affected pig farm on the 15th, with around 4,000 pigs housed there. Compared to other livestock, the foot-and-mouth disease virus spreads more rapidly in pig herds, making strict implementation of prevention and control measures crucial. The authorities have implemented a 21-day quarantine measure for the affected pig farm and all livestock farms within a 3-kilometer radius, prohibiting the transportation of animal products.
