Haiti has nearly 6 million people suffering from food shortages, high oil prices may worsen the crisis.
The latest report released by the United Nations World Food Program on the 16th shows that from March to June this year, about 5.83 million people in Haiti are facing severe food insecurity, accounting for about half of the total population of Haiti. Although slightly lower than the previous estimate of 5.91 million people, the situation is still grim, and with the Iran conflict leading to a rise in oil prices, this slight improvement may soon turn to nothing. According to the report on food security, out of these 5.83 million people, nearly 1.9 million are facing "emergency" levels of food insecurity, which means they are experiencing extreme food shortages and severe malnutrition.
