The country's first offshore carbon capture and storage project has started construction, with an annual storage capacity of over one million tons of carbon dioxide.

Today, reporters learned from CNOOC that China's first offshore carbon injection and gas production demonstration project, the Dongfang 1-1 gas field carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage project officially started construction. Once fully operational, it will be able to store over a million tons of carbon dioxide in submarine reservoirs annually.
