Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to hold talks with the Lebanese side, while US President Donald Trump has indicated that Israeli leaders will ease their attacks on Lebanon, showing hope for a de-escalation of the situation. However, Netanyahu has vowed to continue striking Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, in Lebanon. Hezbollah suffered its deadliest single-day attack in more than a month of war on Wednesday. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the attack has killed at least 303 people and injured 1,150. The targets of this airstrike were Beirut's city center and other areas in Lebanon, occurring just hours after Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran. Key coordinator Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif initially stated that the ceasefire agreement included Lebanon, but US and Israeli officials later made contradictory statements. Trump spoke with Netanyahu on Wednesday, telling the media that Israelis are "toning down" their actions against Lebanon. US Vice President JD Vans stated on Wednesday that Israel has agreed to "slightly scale back in Lebanon" to support negotiations. The Israeli Defense Forces reduced the number of airstrikes in Lebanon on Thursday. Netanyahu stated that Israel will continue to strike Hezbollah until the security of northern Israel is guaranteed. In a video statement, he said, "Lebanon has not agreed to a ceasefire." He added that Lebanon had previously called for negotiations, focusing on disarming Hezbollah and reaching a sustainable peace agreement with Lebanon. According to a US State Department official, it is expected that the State Department will host talks between Israel and Lebanon next week to discuss ongoing ceasefire negotiations.
