The President of Ecuador announced that several areas of the country have entered a state of emergency.
On April 2nd, local time, Ecuadorian President Novoa signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency for several provinces and cities in the country for a period of 60 days. The executive order states that the state of emergency applies to 9 provinces including Guayas, Manabi, Santa Elena, Los Rios, El Oro, Pichincha, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, and Sucumbios, as well as 4 cities including La Mana in Cotopaxi province, Las Naves in Bolivar province, and Echeandia and Ratrero in Canar province. The executive order states that this action is a necessary measure taken to address "serious internal unrest."
