On March 24, the official website of State Grid Corporation of China stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, State Grid will accelerate the construction of pumped storage power stations, with a planned new construction capacity of over 30 million kilowatts. By 2030, the installed and under-construction capacity of pumped storage power stations operated by State Grid will exceed 120 million kilowatts, providing over 150 million kilowatts of power regulation capacity, an increase of over 70% compared to the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. In 2026, State Grid plans to invest 31 billion yuan in pumped storage projects, focusing on the application of new generation pumped storage technologies such as large-scale variable-speed pumped storage units and wide-load long-term grid-connected pumped storage units to drive the upgrade of the domestic equipment manufacturing industry.
