Since the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has been severely disrupted, with a sharp decrease in the volume of traffic. According to the British Lloyd's List on the 23rd, an increasing number of vessels have recently begun using a new route through this strait. The new route is located between the Iranian islands of Qeshm and Larak, passing through the northern part of Larak Island. Since the 20th, at least 16 vessels have passed through the Strait of Hormuz, with 12 of them using this new route. It is reported that this route is similar to the "security corridor" designated by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Revolutionary Guard uses Larak Island to visually confirm passing ships through the strait. Data from the market service agency Kepler shows that from March 1st to 4:00 pm GMT on March 23, the number of commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz was only 144 times, a 95% decrease compared to before the outbreak of the conflict on February 28, with 91 of those passages being vessels transporting oil and natural gas.
