Tesla posted on social media, stating that they are collaborating with SpaceX and the artificial intelligence company xAI to build the largest chip manufacturing factory in history, TERAFAB (with an annual capacity of 1 terawatt), integrating logic chips, storage chips, and advanced packaging technology. In order to efficiently utilize solar energy, we need to send 1 billion tons of solar energy collecting equipment into space every year. This requires an extremely large scale: the ability to launch millions of tons of materials into orbit, solar-powered artificial intelligence satellites, and millions of Tesla sky pillar robots to assist in construction. All of these require chips, with Optimus robots alone needing 100-200 gigawatts of chips, while solar-powered artificial intelligence satellites require terawatt-level chips. This demand has already exceeded the total production capacity of all chip manufacturers worldwide today, even surpassing their projected capacity in 2030 (based on expected growth). Building TERAFAB is aimed at bridging the gap between current chip production capacity and future demand, creating a future belonging to interstellar civilization.
