The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter from CCTV asked: Due to the recent instability in the Middle East, Taiwan is facing the risk of oil and gas supply disruptions, and various sectors on the island are highly concerned about energy resource reserves and supply issues. This has also drawn public attention to the fact that the mainland proposed for the first time in October last year that there will be "seven improvements" for Taiwan after reunification, including "better energy resource security with a strong motherland as backing". What is the spokesperson's interpretation? Spokesperson Chen Binhua replied that achieving reunification peacefully is most beneficial to compatriots on both sides of the strait and to the entire nation. Peaceful reunification will create tremendous opportunities for the economic and social development of Taiwan and bring real benefits to the people of Taiwan. This includes "better energy resource security with a strong motherland as backing."
