With the skyrocketing oil prices, German car owners are crossing borders to refuel.
Due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the interruption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the oil prices in Germany have significantly surged recently. In order to save costs, some car owners have had to drive to Poland for refueling. Data from the German Automobile Club on the 3rd showed that due to the tensions in the Middle East, the nationwide average price of E10 premium gasoline in Germany is 1.89 euros per liter, an increase of 0.12 euros from the previous week. The increase in diesel prices is even more pronounced, with an average price of 1.91 euros per liter, an increase of nearly 0.18 euros from the previous week. At the same time, the nationwide average price of gasoline in Poland on the 3rd was 5.79 zlotys per liter, with diesel averaging 6.05 zlotys per liter. The city of Swiebodzin in western Poland is facing across the river from Frankfurt, Germany. The huge price difference has led some cost-conscious German car owners to refuel in Poland. Some even take time off to come specifically for refueling. Industry insiders point out that due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, international oil prices are still facing upward pressure, and many gas stations choose to pass on the increased costs directly to the car owners.
