The Trump administration has opened the door for Venezuela to sell some of its gold to the United States, providing a major boost to the country that faces a severe shortage of US dollars due to restrictions on oil exports. According to a notice released on Friday, the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control issued licenses to allow certain activities involving Venezuelan-origin gold. Washington's relaxation of restrictions comes as US Interior Secretary Doug Bergum visited Caracas this week. After the arrest of Maduro in January, the US is seeking to revive Venezuela's oil and mineral production and strengthen coordination with the interim government of Venezuela.
