The General Administration of Market Supervision organized a special spot check on Lantern Festival and glutinous rice balls, and the results showed that the safety situation is good.

With the Lantern Festival approaching, traditional foods such as yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls) and tangyuan (sweet rice dumplings) are experiencing a peak in sales. In order to ensure food safety during the festival and create a safe and reassuring consumer environment, the State Administration for Market Regulation recently organized a special nationwide inspection, which revealed that the overall quality and safety of yuanxiao and tangyuan are good. This special inspection covered all 31 provinces in the country, with a total of 2512 batches of yuanxiao and tangyuan randomly sampled from supermarkets, pastry shops, snack shops, wholesale markets, convenience stores, and other key venues. The inspection focused on quality and safety indicators such as sweeteners, colorants, metal elements, and peroxide value that are of concern to the public. Laboratory tests showed that none of the products were found to be substandard. The market regulatory authorities will continue to strengthen the supervision of traditional festival foods, uphold the responsibility of food producers and operators, and safeguard the food safety of the people.
