Uruguay declares a health emergency due to avian flu.
The Uruguayan government announced on the 24th that due to the outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza, the country has entered a state of health emergency nationwide. The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay declared that the provinces of Maldonado, Rocha, and Canelones have recently reported cases of wild animals infected with the H5N1 avian influenza virus, leading to the decision to declare a national health emergency. Under this state, Uruguay will reduce the movement of poultry, require poultry to be raised indoors, and stop organizing trade fairs and other activities related to poultry. In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay urges producers and the public to be vigilant, avoid contact with sick or dead poultry, and report any suspicious cases through official channels.
