Apple (AAPL.O) has announced that the company will be moving a portion of its Mac Mini desktop computer production from Asia to the United States, marking its latest move to bring back a significant part of its supply chain to the US. Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Sabih Khan, stated that the new production plan will be launched later this year at a Foxconn factory in northern Houston. The factory consists of two main buildings, with one currently being used for assembling Apple artificial intelligence servers, and the other a massive warehouse that will be transformed into a 220,000 square foot Mac Mini production workshop. Apple (AAPL.O) announced in August of last year that it would be investing $60 billion in the US over the next four years, with the above measures being part of that commitment. The Mac Mini is a niche product for Apple, accounting for less than 5% of global Mac computer sales and less than 1% of overall sales, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (The Wall Street Journal).
