The American women's ice hockey team, who defeated Canada to win the gold medal in the women's ice hockey final at the Milan Winter Olympics, declined an invitation from US President Trump on the 23rd. Trump had invited them to attend the State of the Union address at the US Capitol on the 24th. According to NBC, a spokesman for the USA Hockey Association said they were honored to receive the invitation and thanked for the recognition, but emphasized that "due to scheduled academic and professional activities after the game, the players cannot attend." Previously, Trump had a conversation with the American men's ice hockey team who also won gold, and invited members of both the men's and women's ice hockey teams to attend the State of the Union address on the 24th as guests. He even joked, "If I don't invite the women's team, I might get impeached." It is currently unclear whether the men's ice hockey team will attend.
