Ministry of Water Resources: The Yellow River flood peak has entered a critical period, and the frozen section of the river in Inner Mongolia may be fully opened by mid-March.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, due to the recent rise in temperatures, the opening speed of the frozen section of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia has accelerated, with an average daily opening of around 9 kilometers since February 15. At 10:00 on February 21, the opening of the frozen section in Inner Mongolia up to the San Sheng Gong hub was 18 days earlier than usual, marking the beginning of the crucial period for the opening of the Yellow River. Currently, the Yellow River has opened a total of 128.8 kilometers, with a remaining frozen length of 587.5 kilometers, including 554 kilometers in the upper Inner Mongolia section and 33.5 kilometers in the middle section. The opening process is overall stable, with no significant risks. According to forecasts, temperatures will continue to rise in late February, with temperatures remaining above average in March, leading to a faster opening speed. It is possible that the entire frozen section of Inner Mongolia may be opened by mid-March. The Ministry of Water Resources will continue to closely monitor weather changes and the opening process of the Yellow River basin, organize and guide the Yellow River commissions and local authorities to ensure the safety of flood control efforts.
