Natural gas prices in Europe have fallen despite depleting inventories.
Although the overall gas storage levels in the region are low, European natural gas prices continue to hover around 30 euros per megawatt-hour. Analysts from ANZ Bank's research department commented: "Warmer weather forecasts suggest a easing of demand pressure, and the heating season is also coming to an end." However, "depleted inventories make prices vulnerable to any supply interruptions." According to data from the industry organization European Gas Infrastructure, the gas storage levels in the entire European Union are currently less than 34% of capacity, far below the five-year average. The benchmark Dutch TTF natural gas futures contract fell 2.3% to 30.20 euros per megawatt-hour.
