In 2026, Beijing's small car license plate quota will be announced.

On February 15th, the city of Beijing announced the quota and distribution ratio for small passenger car permits in 2026. The quota for regular small passenger car permits in Beijing in 2026 is 100,000, with an additional 80,000 new energy permits issued. Of the 100,000 regular small passenger car permits in Beijing in 2026, 20,000 are regular permits and 80,000 are new energy permits. In terms of distribution ratio, for regular small passenger car permits, the quota for family and individual permits totals 19,200, which will be allocated through a lottery system; the quota for organizational permits is 800, allocated separately. Regular small passenger car permits will be distributed in two phases on June 26th and December 26th, with 10,000 permits issued each phase. For new energy small passenger car permits, the quota for family permits is 59,200, for individual permits is 14,800, and for organizational permits is 5,000. Family, individual, and organizational new energy small passenger car permits will be distributed on May 26th. In addition, in recent years, Beijing's comprehensive traffic management efforts have been effective, with improvements in traffic capacity and alleviation of road congestion. However, there is still significant pressure on traffic operation, and the congestion relief falls short of societal expectations. Considering various factors such as traffic operation, air quality, and citizen demand, an additional 80,000 new energy small passenger car permits will be issued in 2026, with 60,000 allocated to families and 20,000 to individuals. The allocation of additional permits will be done by first distributing permits to the top 59,200 families based on total points, and then continuing to distribute to the next 60,000 families in descending order of points. For families with the same points, the order of registration in the Beijing small passenger car permit management system will be used for allocation, until the quota is filled. After distributing to the top 14,800 individuals, the next 20,000 individuals will be allocated new energy permits in the order of application time. New energy small passenger car permits will be distributed in one batch on May 26th, and the results of the allocation based on points will be announced on that day for families and individuals to see if they have been selected.
