Sichuan University Announcement: Regarding the feedback on issues related to our faculty member Wang Zhuqing, the university attaches great importance and has set up a task force to conduct a comprehensive investigation through interviews with teachers and students, in-depth expert review, and examination of project funds. The investigation found that Wang Zhuqing had engaged in academic misconduct including fabrication and falsification of experimental research data, duplicate publications, and improper authorship. Among the 28 papers reported, 6 were found to have problems, with 4 containing fabricated or manipulated image data and 2 having issues with duplicated image data. Additionally, there was 1 paper with duplicated image data and 1 with improper authorship among other papers published by Wang Zhuqing that were not reported. Of the problematic papers, 2 were journal articles and 6 were conference papers. Wang Zhuqing was also found to have failed to complete the necessary procedures for academic conference services procurement, not returning surplus funds from conferences to the university, misappropriating research funds of 10,000 RMB, and having poor communication with some students while supervising graduate students, leading to conflicts. In accordance with relevant regulations such as the "Regulations on Disciplinary Actions for Employees of Public Institutions," "Implementation Rules for Investigating and Handling Academic Misconduct in Higher Education Institutions," and "Guidelines for Graduate Supervision," the university has decided to take the following disciplinary actions against Wang Zhuqing: 1. Demotion from a special researcher to a special associate researcher. 2. Suspension of the ability to enroll graduate students. 3. Disqualification from applying for government-funded technology projects for 5 years; reporting academic misconduct in research papers and projects to relevant authorities. The university will respect the wishes of the students and make arrangements for those supervised by Wang Zhuqing, providing care and support. Those responsible and relevant departments will be held accountable, with further strengthening of fund management and the promotion of research integrity and professional ethics among faculty members to maintain a healthy learning environment. The university appreciates the concern and oversight from all sectors of society.
