Wang Yi meets German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas

On February 13, 2026, local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with German Foreign Minister Waldfuhr during the Munich Security Conference. Wang Yi said that the world is becoming increasingly unstable, the current international order is facing serious challenges, and multilateralism is facing severe challenges. At this crucial moment, it is of great significance for China and Germany to enhance strategic communication, oppose unilateralism, resist confrontation between blocs, and go beyond bilateral relations. Both sides should resolutely uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, replace "the law of the jungle" with global governance, and jointly become a stabilizing force in the turbulent world. Wang Yi stated that China is willing to work with Germany to prepare for the next stage of high-level interactions, add new substance to the all-dimensional strategic partnership between China and Germany, promote new developments in cooperation in various fields, and make new contributions to the healthy development of China-Europe relations. Economic and trade cooperation is the cornerstone of Sino-German relations. China adheres to a high level of opening up and is willing to create a market-oriented, rule-of-law-based, and internationalized first-class business environment for German and other foreign companies to share opportunities for Chinese development. Waldfuhr stated that the current world is turbulent, and stable development of German-Chinese relations can provide much-needed stability. Germany attaches great importance to China and looks forward to a more open China, with high expectations for the Chinese market. German-Chinese cooperation has huge potential. Germany is against decoupling of economies, opposes trade protectionism, and welcomes fair competition. Germany adheres to the One China policy. Germany looks forward to close high-level exchanges with China and comprehensive enhancement of German-Chinese relations. Both sides exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the Ukraine crisis.
